Sometimes I'll look at pictures of real animals and try to make a personality and background story for them based on their expressions. It's quite fun actually.

I have a fursona, but I don't think I can write about it. Still deciding, I'll look into it though :)

I have the same problem with my writing! I have yet to find something that helps, too... Even when I ask other people for ideas.. I never make anything out of their ideas because I get started, realize it's kind of good, and think "But it wasn't my idea, and therefore it's not really mine!"<br /><br /><br />In my last fiction writing class, our professor had us do an in-class exercise. He told us to write the scene that happens right before someone stumbles upon a dead body. You weren't allowed to use the words "death, murder" or anything of that sort and had to rely on symbolism and feel to build suspense. It was pretty challenging, but fun! Instead of doing that, I like to pick a feeling, like the feeling of being forlorn (and the more complicated feeling you can think of, the more fun you'll have). I'll think "What could have made me feel forlorn? How can I describe the feeling of being forlorn without coming right out and saying "She was feeling forlorn" and without using any of the words in the definition of forlorn (desolate, dreary, unhappy, miserable, etc)?" So I'll do something like, "Jennie sat on the edge of her bed, tugging her sweater tighter around her shoulders and staring out the window. The weather outside matched her mood; gray clouds hung low overhead and raindrops pelted the glass. She sighed and looked at her clock. It had only been an hour, and already she missed him." Playing with an emotion and trying to describe it will really get you thinking... And who knows, it might turn into a longer piece of work! <br /><br /><br />You can also play with characters. Sometimes I'll find a name I really like and I'll make a character to match it. I write an outline of their backstory, but sometimes I'll get carried away and turn a piece of their story that I'd intended to just gloss over into a two or three page story!<br /><br /><br />Good luck!

If you have any fursonas, you could write about them. That's what I'm currently doing. :D
